San Francisco, CA 94111) presented by the Italian Consulate General in San Francisco and BAIA that will address how the digital revolution is disrupting manufacturing and provide insights from Silicon Valley and Italy. Calenda will be visiting San Francisco and Silicon Valley with a business delegation, focused on biotech and the applications of IT to manufacturing. This will be a follow-up of Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi’s visit here in September 2014. The Italian Government aims to make sure that Italian biotech and manufacturing companies take an active part in the current technological paradigm shift. It is also engaged in circulating information on the dramatic improvement of Italy’s business environment following a series of reforms, including a labor law reform.
Carlo Calenda is a young and dynamic politician. He is in charge of promoting – inter alia – foreign investment to Italy. In his career, he was a manager at Ferrari.
(Vice Minister for Economic Development Carlo Calenda)
Manufacturers across the world are waking up to the opportunities and threats of digitization that will affect every sector of the economy – from media to finance, from consumer products to healthcare – as well as every phase of the product life cycle – from design, sourcing, testing, and production to distribution, point of sale, and use. This global trend is especially relevant to Italy, which is Europe’s second-largest manufacturing power, and stands to capitalize well on this emerging reality.

At the same time, Silicon Valley is at the forefront of the digital revolution and leads the way in experimenting how to capture opportunities, improving operational effectiveness, innovating products and finding new sources of revenue, as well as where to invest more and what new capabilities, skills, and mind-sets are necessary in a new, revolutionized manufacturing ecosystem.
We hope to see you for this exciting panel discussion of Silicon Valley insiders and Italian officials and entrepreneurs as they discuss how the global manufacturing industry is acting upon this fundamental transformation. The panel will be moderated by Matteo Daste and include Jack Fuchs Consulting Associate Professor Stanford University, John Bates CEO Plat.one, Flavio Bonomi CEO Nebbiolo Technologies, Carlo Capello CEO Proxtome and Manuel Terranova CEO Peaxy.
