Text6 MayWhy Investing in Italy is a Good Idea: A Case Study

David MacNeil is spending more time in Bogolese (near Parma) these days. Mr. MacNeil is a great lover of Italian automobiles – he has a ’67 Ferrari – and fashion, but that’s not the only reason he’s spending time in Parma. Instead, the fabled town in Emilia-Romagna is the new headquarters of WeatherTech Europe Srl, which Mr. MacNeil recently started as the European base of this successful automobile accessories company.

“We are hiring quality Italian workers. They are smart, capable, talented and have a wonderful work ethic,” says David. He has also been impressed with the robust local business environment, strong business ethics and high quality engineering competence. Moreover, the attentive local authorities are also bringing value to his operation.

David came to invest in Parma via his passion for Ferraris. When his ‘67 Ferrari was being geared up for the Mille Miglia tour, the car was put under the care of Paolo Brighenti. Out of that episode came friendship, and out of this friendship – and a nice meeting in Portofino – came the decision to invest in Parma. Paolo is currently the managing director of WeatherTech Europe srl.

In a charming managerial flourish, Mr. MacNeil gives a complete Ermenegildo Zegna outfit to his management team as a bonus. The top drawer fashion house has taken notice and now invites David to events in Milan. Just another perk of doing business in Italy!
