Angela Alioto offers profound perspective on the Italian-American experience in San Francisco. Her family comes from Sicily, and she grew up with beloved Mayor Joseph Alioto as her father. Eventually, Mrs. Alioto became a central player in San Francisco politics, rising to the position of President of the Board of Supervisors. She visits Assisi every year and, remarkably, oversaw the construction of a replica of one of the Catholic faith’s most sacred shrines in San Francisco.
